Construction has begun on The Elysian II, a mixed-income apartment complex on Spanish Town Road in Downtown East. New Orleans-based Gulf Coast Housing Partnership, which is developing the project, closed on its financing Jan. 11 and immediately began site work. The project is expected to be complete in the spring of 2019.

A retail and office development anchored by a Geico insurance office is going vertical on Siegen Lane between Rooms To Go and Burgersmith. The head of the Downtown Development District wants to turn a 20-acre site across River Road from the Pentagon Barracks into a park, with trails and fishing ponds. Since 1990, there has been discussion about developing the state-owned land, with plans to build boardwalks on the site.
