A retail and office development anchored by a Geico insurance office is going vertical on Siegen Lane between Rooms To Go and Burgersmith. Geico insurance agent Mike Long and his family broke ground on the Siegen Professional Plaza development last week. Construction is tentatively expected to be complete in the spring.

Cane Land Distilling Co., located at 760 St. Phillip St., will open its doors to the public for a grand opening event on May 20 and expects to begin distributing its rum to local grocers and supermarkets—stretching from New Orleans to Baton Rouge to Lafayette—by early summer.

Baton Rouge’s first commercial climbing gym, Uptown Climbing, is going up on Coursey Boulevard and is set to open in late July, featuring four distinct rock climbing areas, yoga and aerial silks. The 10,000-square-foot gym is currently under construction at 10505 Coursey Blvd., across the street from Investar Bank.
